Foundation partners with Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce to Support Local Healthcare Professionals

For nearly eighteen months, many our community’s healthcare professionals have been working long hours on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic – often not able to stop for a meal. With the pandemic’s presence still significantly felt across our healthcare facilities, the Wayne County Foundation is pleased to announce its support of the Wayne County Area of Commerce’s Support Your Healthcare Professionals initiative, to recognize their endured commitment, resiliency, and sacrifice to protect our community.

The initiative, which originally began in 2020, was revitalized and on September 29, 2021, nearly 140 meals were provided for our local healthcare professionals. Volunteers brought the meals from local restaurants directly to the employees at Reid Health. The efforts of the initiative will be ongoing over the coming weeks.

Like many community foundations across the country in 2020, the Wayne County Foundation strove to emerge as a leader to help battle the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In an effort to spearhead the community’s response, the Foundation established the Wayne County Cares Fund in April 2020, which was intended to aid those most vulnerable to the effects of the pandemic. To date, over $100,000 from the fund has been granted directly back into Wayne County to help those in need.

In addition, the Foundation also offered COVID-19 Crisis Response Grants, and a loan program for our local nonprofit organizations.

The Foundation’s support of the Support Your Healthcare Professionals initiative was directed from the Wayne County Cares Fund.
